What quality silk does Christine use? The Valentina Slip Gown is made from luxurious, 19mm silk.
Why isn’t thread count used when talking about silk? Silk is an incredibly fine fibre, and thread counts would be extremely high, regardless of the quality of the silk. So for example, a low-quality silk may have a similarly high thread count to a high-quality silk. For this reason, silk uses an alternative system to measure quality, called momme (mm) weight.
What is momme weight? Momme weight describes the weight of 100 yards of silk, 45 inches wide, in pounds. So, if a fabric is listed with a momme weight of 16mm, it means that 100 yards of the fabric weighs 16 pounds. The best silk lingerie is 19mm or 19 pounds in weight per 100 yards.

Using a mild or natural soap wash in cool water for 3-5 minutes. Gently move fabric from side to side while soaking. Rinse with cold clean water. Remove from water but do not wring dry, instead lay flat on a towel, roll in towel to remove excess water then leave flat to dry. Do not put in dryer. CHRISTINE’S TIPS: Do not bleach. Do not leave in sunshine as fading will occur. Iron with medium heat on backside while garment is still slightly damp and do not spray with water while ironing.
For best results we recommend dry cleaning.
When this gown debuted online (in ruby/black), I was captivated by the look of the gown, the lustre of the silk, the contrast of the black lace against the ruby silk, the deep v-back. I knew I had to add this piece to my boudoir collection. The “Fit and Size” guide noted that this is a “slim” size piece and generally this is an indication for me to size up, but I make my final decisions based on how it fits on the woman that primarily models many of the pieces. I’ve noted that for me, if a gown seems snug on her in the sides of the torso, it confirms slim sizing. In the case of this gown, it does not appear too snug on her so i decided to take my chances, ignoring the “slim” guideline and ordering my usual size (‘large’) for my 12-14 (US) frame. When the gown arrived, I couldn’t wait to try it on – the fit was perfect! Aside from the fit, the gown lived up to and surpassed my initial high expectations. The charmeuse silk is dreamily soft and feels amazingly luxurious as it swishes around my legs. The silk while being 19mm and very solid is not overly heavy but the sheer amount of fabric provides a fantastic drape and elegant motion. The black lace trim beautifully frames a vast expense of the back and careful placement of the lace on the front gives the appearance of a deep v-front without being overly immodest. When I wear this gown, i feel sultry, sexy and dare I say, like a goddess! (No offense to the breathtaking ‘goddess’ line featured elsewhere on this website. 😉 ) I will definitely treasure this piece for many years to come!
